AIO my boyfriend acted weird about my scars.

I have SH scars on my arms and legs. I have a new-ish boyfriend and I finally told him about my mental struggles. His reply was, "The scars aren't great", I then asked if he found them ugly, and he replied with an "eh." Personally this lowered my self-esteem a lot. They never really bothered me a whole lot because they're just a part of me. But It really sucked to hear from someone I like a lot that he thought they were ugly. Am I overreacting by being upset/looking into it too much?
