Trailer or no trailer on chatterbaits?

Hello Everyone i hope y'all have are having a fantastic day!

Recently i have been in love with chatterbaits but i have Almost caught more fish when i Haven't used trailers?

Do you guys use trailers all the time or does it depend on the conditions? Like yesterday i saw a huge Perch that was nibbling on my chatterbait bait it wouldn't bite. So i tried to remove the trailer and boom i hooked it. Maybe it just liked a smaller bait?
