My first scam

Discussion

A while back, when I was still very new to TF2 and its community, I decided to trade a Soldier taunt—the "Neck Snap" one (I don't remember the exact name). I joined a trading server, and this guy struck up a conversation with me. I checked his profile, and it looked like he had a lot of money and high-value items, so I decided to trust him; he seemed like someone who really knew what he was doing. After chatting for a bit, I offered him the Soldier taunt. In exchange, he offered me some cosmetics for a "purple-tier" paint (not the kind with special effects) worth 80 pesos, the taunt itself (currently worth 87.99), and finally a *Jungle Inferno* campaign reward called the "Jungle Jackpot" War Paint, valued at around 40 pesos on the Steam Market. All of this was in exchange for three hats worth no more than 6 pesos each. These were the craftable kind—nothing special like "Strange" quality or anything; they were really basic. I just looked up one of them in "Strange" quality, and it was worth 15 pesos. He kept telling me it was a great deal, so after talking for a while, we went through with the trade. I admit I was stupid back then for trusting him and not looking up the values myself, but looking back now, it’s a total dick move to do that to a kid who had just started playing the game.

I wanted to know what you guys would do in a situation like this. –ElMorado
