Question about Pre-release Event

Hello! I played MtG back in the 90s as a kid, and then didn’t play it for a long time. My son is 10 and has gotten into it, which has drawn me back in (which is cool).

Our LGS has a pre-release event for the new Hobbit set coming up. I’ve never done one of these events before and am wondering if it is appropriate for a 10 year old to participate.

For context, my son and I play Magic against each other, so he understands basic game play and rules. And he has played in chess tournaments.
