Sweet v. McMahon Question: Pending Reconsideration After April 15, 2026 Discharge

I’m hoping someone here has run into this situation or has guidance from PPSL.
Here’s my timeline:
Borrower Defense application submitted: August 22, 2022 (Post-Class applicant)
My school is not an Exhibit C school.
The Department denied my application.
I timely submitted a Request for Reconsideration on January 13, 2025.
The Department accepted the reconsideration request.
My StudentAid account still says my reconsideration is being reviewed and that I’ll be notified once a decision is reached.
As of April 15, 2026, the Department had not issued a decision on my reconsideration, and it remains pending today.
With the Ninth Circuit recently affirming enforcement of the Sweet settlement deadlines, I’m trying to understand how this affects my situation.
My question is:
Does the original denial satisfy the Department’s obligation under the settlement, or because they accepted reconsideration and still haven’t issued a final decision, could I be entitled to Full Settlement Relief due to the missed April 15 deadline?
Has anyone had this exact procedural history?
Denial
Timely reconsideration
Reconsideration still pending after April 15, 2026
If you’ve heard back from PPSL or the Department on this specific issue, I’d really appreciate hearing what they told you.
