International nurse with 11 years experience (ICU/Anesthesia/Resuscitation) trying to break into the UK HSE Offshore Medic path—is there any workaround for the NMC registration requirement?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance from anyone familiar with the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Offshore Medic certification framework or those working in the international offshore sector.

To give a brief background, I am an international healthcare professional with:

* **11 years of clinical experience**, heavily specialized in Intensive Care Units (ICU), operating theaters, and anesthesia. * Advanced postgraduate studies focusing on **nursing anesthesia and resuscitation**. * Extensive background working in high-pressure clinical environments, including international corporate settings.

I want to transition into the offshore sector and take an HSE-approved Offshore Medic course. However, looking closely at the prerequisites, they explicitly state that registered nurses must appear on the **UK NMC register**.

Since I am an international candidate without a UK NMC registration, I wanted to ask:

  1. Do training providers or the HSE ever accept international equivalents or foreign nursing board licenses alongside extensive critical care/anesthesia experience on a case-by-case basis?
  2. Has anyone here successfully navigated this as an overseas nurse? What pathway or portfolio review process did you use to get approved?
  3. Are there alternative international remote medic certifications (like ITLS, DIMEC, or equivalents) that open similar doors if the UK HSE route strictly shuts out non-UK registrants without full NMC conversion?

Any advice, shared experiences, or points of contact would be massively appreciated. Thank you!
