Wednesday's segment on Gretchen Whitmer ("We're used to people saying f*** no, then doing it anyway")

I thought I was pretty cynical about the state of corporate media, but apparently I wasn't nearly cynical enough. This hot mic clip of Gretchen Whitmer yukking it up with Oracle CEO Clay Magouyrk is nearly two months old, and I'm only hearing about it this week.

For those who didn't watch the full segment, Whitmer is attending the groundbreaking for a contentious OpenAI / Oracle hyperscale data center in Saline Township, MI. Will Lawrence, a climate activist and candidate in the Democratic primary for Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, said of Whitmer's appearance alongside Magouyrk and Sam Altman: "It just looks to me like a slap in the face to the residents of Saline Township that in no uncertain terms said they didn’t want this project." The township's board rejected the proposed data center by a 4-1 vote, but capitulated to the developer after the prospect of an expensive legal battle.

I've been combing the internet for more information, in particular from legacy media (NYT, WSJ, Washington Post), and I've found basically no coverage of the groundbreaking event, the Whitmer hot mic, or the way Saline Township got railroaded by the AI firms into allowing this hyperscale data center. If this clip is legit — and it seems like it is — it's quite telling that the corporate Democrat-aligned media has been so effective at hushing it up.
