Struggling with a new chapter
I could really use some advice from people who have been through something similar.
My ex and I were together for about 7 1/2 years. A few months ago, I found out he cheated on me. Since then, we’ve continued living together because I couldn’t afford to move right away. During that time, he started a relationship with someone else, which has made it even harder to heal.
The good news is I finally found an apartment that I can afford, and I’ll be moving in this weekend. As excited as I am to have my own space and start a new chapter, I’m also terrified.
The hardest part is our dog. We share him, and I honestly don’t know if I’ll be able to bring him with me. I’m going to do everything I possibly can to make it work because he’s been my world for years. The thought of not seeing him every day absolutely breaks my heart.
On top of that, I feel like I’m grieving two losses at once.. the relationship I thought I was going to have for the rest of my life and the life I had become so used to. I have no idea what this next chapter is going to look like, and I’m feeling really scared, anxious, and overwhelmed.
If you’ve gone through a longterm breakup, especially one where you had to leave a shared home or a beloved pet, how did you cope? Does it eventually get easier? Any advice or words of encouragement would really mean a lot right now.
