Traeger Old Fashion
Made my own simple syrup today on the Traeger.
I diced a peach, a nectarine, and a dozen cherries, then added some cinnamon and Mike’s Hot Honey. Put the mix into my small cast-iron skillet with about a quarter stick of butter, and placed it onto the Traeger at 350°F for about an hour.
Poured it back into the bowl and hit the mix with an immersion blender, then strained it. It yielded 2 cups, which went into a saucepan. Added 2 cups of water and 1.5 cups of sugar substitute (which equals 3 cups of sugar). Simmered and reduced it; once cooled, I added about 1/2 tablespoon of orange bitters.
Mixed 2 ounces of the syrup with 3 ounces of my favorite bourbon and hit it with a little cherrywood smoke.
It’s delicious!
My wife loved it with vodka, too.
