Maybe A Unique Take On Why I Feel the Gameplay Is Stale
OG Beta Player here,
I used to like the game when it came out and was super fresh and all and since then I've really tried to get back into it. The thing that I noticed though that kind of makes me lose interest in the game is the following:
Whatever class you play feels like it has a glaring weakness that you MUST play around (which sounds reasonable on the surface) but....
What does this look like in practice?
To me, it looks like a one dimensional gameplay loop. Say you're fighting a barbarian. Well, simply put, you have to poke him down before entering a fight with him. Otherwise he will win and there's no outplaying it because you will get stat-checked.
As a rogue vs any melee class the same is pretty much true, you must poke them down or you will just lose the stat-check.
With caster warlock, you must poke them down and kite and that's really just the only fight dynamic there is there.
As Bard, guess what, you widdle them down with survival bow and then go in because you will get stat-checked vs Fighter and Barb.
It just seems like a classes weakness (regardless of the class) is so severe that you must play to that one playstyle since the game doesn't have very many outplay mechanics and that to me is kind of stale. I'd like to see them open up more dynamic gameplay loops. I guess druid is the closest to that since your forms open up more dynamic combat loops (i.e, u can go rat to dodge a sword swing, bear to break a door/tank a shot, leap away with panther, etc.)
