No Phone Day for Angsty Teens

My best friends and I have taken our girls to NYC annually every year since they were little. At first, easy-peasy, we hit all the main sites and museums and came home on a parenting high. Fast forward a few more trips, and we're entering the pre teen and teen phase where they probably hate everything and def hate us but I'm an optimist and trust in the power of Reddit.

Here's my ask...I'm planning a surprise day in Nov where no one in our group has a phone except mine for emergencies. The logic is that we do something together that we've never done, revolved around experiences and not documenting every element. Can you help me think of a few ideas that could go with this theme? My aim was to learn something new, to try something silly, and maybe have something retrospective and quiet to round it out.

Some initial thoughts....

  1. I love the idea of taking the group to a glassblowing lesson at Brooklyn Glassworks
  2. I've always wanted to go to one of those smash rooms
  3. I like the idea of Beat the Bomb
  4. I really wanted to find a tarot card reader that would only give us happy news/silly readings. It'd be my luck that my kid would be told something terrible and I'm drowning in tears all weekend.
  5. I'm fine paying a decent chunk for this and having a driver to help get around if that keeps the peace.
  6. We all like good food and new experiences...I'd need lunch/dinner recs
  7. We're staying in Manhattan but would love to explore elsewhere so long as everything is reasonably condensed
