Discussion

I’m currently editing a video where the director managed to film with a brand-new, IMAX-certified camera and used what they call a “proprietary system” to exceed the image area of a standard 15 perf 65mm negative. It isn’t what they did for the first two Dunes, they apparently did it with a different setup completely that’s closer to true 70mm IMAX. For all intents and purposes, the video is essentially 70mm IMAX—the geometry is the same and we even had to crop it down to 1.43:1—but they want to literally claim the video is 'in 70mm IMAX' since the image area is the same, the dof is the same and the camera is IMAX certified. But I’m advising them to say it was only shot for 70mm IMAX since no real film was used to record it. Legality aside, what would you guys and the general audience think of this? Would it be considered clickbait? Would it turn you away from the brand?

Should add that the specific video I’m editing is just a shot test to promote a clothing brand so I’m guessing they just want to piggy back off the 70mm imax hype just to get eyes on their brand. It’s literally just cool shots with their brands mascot in some of them.
