First meeting with bfs dog went worse than expected. help!
I have a 3 year old female corgi and I just introduced her to my boyfriend’s 8 year old female German shepherd and it went worse than I was hoping. We introduced them in my parents backyard. He had his dog leashed and I was holding onto my dog by her collar which I think was a bad idea but I had already taken her leash off. When his dog would approach her face she was scrunch her nose and growl. This happened multiple times and I would pull her back. I went inside to get her leash so she could have more freedom but she would still growl and snap a little if his dog got close to her face.
One positive side was my dog didn’t seem to fixate on his dog she was able to lay down for a little and let me pet her stomach but when his dog would approach again she would be more alert
She is usually a friendly dog but suffers from leash reactivity. She is totally fine with my parents male older dog and my brothers female weiner dog that is around her age.
My boyfriend’s dog was friendly and excited. Her body language seemed alright. I think next time we have them meet again it will be on more neutral ground and maybe just have them walk next to each other instead of meeting face to face.
I was just worried with my dogs reaction and now I’m scared they won’t get along. Just feeling a little bummed and looking for advice (not looking for medical advice, just curious if anyone has been in the same situation)
