I bought a sewing machine on Facebook marketplace and now I regret it

I bought a sewing machine (a singer 1120) from this older women a few months ago and I tried it before i bought it and it worked perfectly. Ive never owned a sewing machine before so I didnt know what to look for. I’ve finally began using it and now I’m noticing a burning smell while pressing the petal. I think it might be an electrical issue and now I’m angry at myself for even buying a used machine in the first place 🫠 any good machine brands that are affordable and worth it?
