Asked to start purées and then asked to supplement.

Support Needed

My daughter is 4.5 months and we were told to see a paediatrician due to her lack of efficient weight gain . She was born 5 pounds 7 oz she is currently 9 pounds 7 oz. I have been exclusively breastfeeding her which I’ve been so happy about as I couldn’t do this with my first.

However, recently on her 4 month check in the doctor was not so pleased with her weight gain. She has been in the third percentile for her weight and has gained but not based on her curve, she’s dropping to a lower percentile. My daughter hasn’t shown signs of hunger and normally seems pretty satisfied after feeds she does spit up a bit but no vomiting. My doctor suggested to start purées which I’ve been trying (she’s not a fan yet) until I saw a paediatrician.

I recently saw the paediatrician who suggested to start pumping to provide as top up or supplement with formula for some feeds as I may have more fore milk than hind milk, she also suggested meeting with a lactation specialist. Purées aren’t going so well so I think this may be the best route. I feel kind of defeated that I wasn’t able to help her with the weight but not opposed to the suggestions from the doctor. I guess I’m just wondering if other moms experienced something similar. I also haven’t combo fed before so any tips would be great! Do you top up after every feed?

Would love to hear any parents out there that had similar situations and how you handled it and if your child weight went up.
