Fresh off a training/staff development at my small group practice, I wanted to share some thoughts as a clinician using different practices than I typically see represented in this sub. For reference, the above pictures are sandtrays I created. The first picture is a world of something I have healed and something I am still healing. The second picture depicts how I see myself as a person, therapist, and sandtray therapist, respectively. And the third is an intuitive exercise with tarot and soul cards. The connections, understanding, and interpretations I was able to receive by our sandtray trainers was more impactful than words can describe.

I’m an LCSW with over 12 years experience in the field. There are so many different populations, modalities, trainings, etc. that I have encountered in my career that have been impactful, but I have rediscovered my passion for this work as I began working as a play therapist over the past year. Diving into modalities and frameworks that aren’t CBT or DBT, such as sandtray therapy or Animal Assisted Play Therapy, has reminded me why this work is meaningful. Connecting with a world of therapy outside of worksheets and habit trackers feels so much more in alignment with my authentic self (The Person of the Therapist) and I’ve been witness to so many amazing moments with my clients as a result. For any therapists out there who may not see themselves represented in this community as often, I hope you can find your niche and tribe of other clinicians and evidenced-based modalities and interventions that feel true to you.
