The beta really impressed me
While initially intrigued by Tokon, as more of the roster was revealed I found myself thinking "Eh, most of my faves are in MVC already not sure I'll pick this up after all" but having played the beta it's so much more accessible than MVC, whilst also having a much better and more complex assist setup. Switching is baked into the combos, and having dedicated specials and assist attack buttons mapped to a more Smash Bros style input massively increases the potential audience imo.
Yes MVC 3 and I (and the recent arcade collection) had easier input options for beginners, but they all felt like just that: that you were playing with training wheels on.
The fluidity of gameplay and animation in the game is remarkable. I probably won't buy full price, but have added to my wishlist to pick up the inevitable "complete edition" or for when it goes on sale.
