Air conditioning (AC) question - 2022 Ram 1500 5.7 e-torque
Hey all. We have a 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn with the 5.7L e-torque. The AC doesn’t seem to be blowing as cold as I’d hope, but it’s also 100 degrees here right now and the sun is very hot.
I took a laser thermometer and it’s reading around 55 degrees out of the vents at its coldest on recirculate, and took at least 20 minutes to get there. In the same situation, my 2019 wrangler is reading 45 degrees and got there much faster. Regardless, it almost feels like the Ram never truly cools down inside.
Part of me thinks it’s just the Ram having that much more mass to cool down, even in the system itself. But kids say friends trucks cool down more quickly.
A local shop is saying the only thing they can do is purge and weigh the Freon, then refill to spec with dye, and quoting me $450 due to the ‘expensive’ type of Freon used.
Is that all that can be done here? No pressure check or topping off? It’s been a long time since I had to deal with an AC issue, so I’m not sure of the best next steps here.
Thanks!
