Should I cancel my pre-planned vacation that’s close to my start date?
I recently accepted an offer for this fall, and have a pre-planned commitment from October 7–9 that I disclosed during the recruiting process. My recruiter said she communicated this to the team.
Originally, I told my recruiter I’d likely need 6–8 weeks after my background check before starting as I’m moving states and have room starting in October (which the recruiter also communicated). I was told it usually takes a month by the recruiter, but the background check finished in a week. They initially proposed September 14, and I asked if September 28 was possible instead. The team approved September 28.
Assuming the time off was disclosed during recruiting, how is it generally viewed if a new hire takes a previously planned few days off within their first couple of weeks? Is it something managers typically understand, or is it generally frowned upon? I wish it didn‘t land so close to my start date but now I’m wondering if I should just cancel it. I’m going back home to see family which I don’t get to do very often.
