I was physically assaulted. I only want an apology - should I pursue it or prioritize my safety?

AskGandhidham

I’m in Gandhidham, Gujarat, for my startup. My cofounder and I are not from Gandhidham and have only been here for around two months. We are here temporarily while working on our startup.

Today, we had parked our car outside a customer’s office. When we returned, another car had parked directly in front of ours, completely blocking us in.

We waited for some time, but the owner didn’t come. We eventually figured out which office the person had gone to and went inside to ask him to move the car.

My cofounder said something along the lines of, “Sir, you shouldn’t park like this.” I was angry and said to the person: “Tere baap ki road hai kya?” (“Is this your father’s road?”)

I accept that I shouldn’t have said that. It was rude and escalated the situation.

The person became angry, and several other people came over. Eventually, two people physically hit me. There were many people around, and I was completely outnumbered.

During the confrontation, after I had been hit, I had what I believe was a panic attack. My legs were shaking, I was extremely scared, and I felt overwhelmed by the fact that I was surrounded and outnumbered. I eventually started crying, and my cofounder and I left.

I keep replaying parts of the incident in my mind — especially the moment when I was hit and couldn’t really do anything because there were so many people around me.

I am not looking for revenge. I do not particularly want anyone to go to jail. What I really want is for them to acknowledge that hitting me was wrong and say sorry.

However, I have been told that the people involved are transporters. I do not know whether they actually have contacts in the police, and I have no evidence that they do. But I worry that people involved in the transport business may have local connections, given the way the trucking and transport industry can sometimes involve interactions with police and alleged bribery. This is only my concern/inference, not something I know to be true about these particular people.
Since my cofounder and I are not from Gandhidham and have only been here for about two months, I am particularly worried about whether pursuing this could create a safety problem for us. We don’t have deep local connections here, and we are here primarily to work on our startup.

Because of this, I am worried that if I involve the police or otherwise try to arrange an apology, they might identify me, stalk me, or retaliate against me later.

So I am confused about what the sensible thing to do is.

My question is: would you pursue an apology in this situation, or would you simply cut contact, prioritize safety, and move on?

I am not asking for advice on revenge or violence. I am specifically trying to understand whether seeking an apology is worth the potential safety risk.
If you have experience with similar situations in Gujarat/India, I would especially appreciate practical advice.

TL;DR: My cofounder and I have been in Gandhidham for only two months for our startup and are not from here. Someone parked their car in a way that blocked ours. When we went to ask him to move it, I angrily said, “Tere baap ki road hai kya?” Two people then hit me while I was surrounded by a much larger group. I had what I believe was a panic attack during the confrontation and have been replaying the incident since. I don’t want revenge or for anyone to go to jail — I just want an apology. But I am worried that pursuing one, possibly through the police, could expose me to retaliation. Would you pursue the apology or prioritize your safety and move on?
