A different type of gamer, infinitely curious.
The most I know of DnD is DnD online years ago, which I didn't get very far in and now the Baldur's Gate series.
The other day I saw a post on the dynamics of romance between the different alignments and someone said they'd have to bust out their old reference book which is specifically dedicated to the subject. Another person detailed how they had a bard which maintained an affair with a married woman from before her marriage clear into taking care of her child behind her husband's back. I'm not one to care much for romance in particular but this level of involvement is stunning.
I've started Baldur's gate 1 on my phone just barely, and I've wracked a couple hours poking around like a noob in 3. The thing that fascinates me about all of this isbthat the amount of depth you need to involve yourself with playing a DnD style video game covers a very specific scope...
But then I hear people tell stories of their DnD escapades that sound like the stuff of epic film which clearly requires more depth, dedication, understanding, but accrues way more fantastical results.
What are some light but comprehensive resources I can use to familiarize myself with DnD to decide just how into it I want to get? I don't see myself ever having a friend group, tables and dice and game nights, but I think BG3 made a lot of people curious about DnD and I anticipate more virtual DnD titles coming out someday.
Then again who knows? I save hobbies like this for after I get divorced someday 😜. Hopefully joking.
