Anatomists potions and dismissing bros

The wiki states that you can get anatomist potions back if the bro who drank them dies, but doesn't say what happens if you dismiss him. I could not find clear information in this sub either, so I forked my save file to test it, fired the early game Daytaler with the direwolf potion and it dropped again the first direwolf fight (actually a Schrat with hidden direwolves). So hiring the surgeon doesn't have the awful side-effect of forcing you to suicide injured bros to get their potions back.
