Was baking soda a product of the industrial revolution?
Just doing some basic prodding around it seems like it was somehow used historically for preservation purposes, but that may be inaccurate and it may have been some other salt. but wikipedia has 1791 as a date that industrial production of baking soda was possible, so was it just an avaliability increase from it being a natural resource to an industrial product?
I guess my question is would the average low income farmer have been able to clean their pots and plates with baking soda in europe and the middle east before the industrial revolution?
