Line Spool Not Sitting Flush

Hello!

VERY new to the hobby and I know nothing. I had my son's fishing rod respooled today and when I went to put it back together I can't seem to get the line spool to sit low enough to allow the drag control to be screwed back on. I've done this a dozen times and never had any issues so I'm not sure what's different this time. Tried to Google/Youtube some keywords but I'm striking out. He desperately wants to go fishing tomorrow so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I'm sure it's obvious.
