how to stop always hosting lobbies?

every time i search for a game i ALWAYS end up the first person in the lobby and have to sit there for ages as i watch ppl join then leave since its just me here. i never join a lobby with a couple people in already it’s just always me alone. i have matchmaking set to any and im on a moderate nat type. is there a way to fix this?
