So disappointed in George

First time watching the show and Im at the start of season 4. In the beginning I really liked George although I hated the crush arc with Meredith. Then the writers seemed to be hellbent on me hating him. Why do they show him being such an amazing person at some points but then make sure to make me hate him because of his terrible decisions. I just wish he had better arcs but it seems like he never learned. Does anybody else have a complicated relationship with George and wish he was written better? :(
