Crew & Tap Mechanics with Deeproot Pilgrimage

Hi folks! I'm in the middle of finalizing a hilarious Merfolk Vehicle deck on the basis that there are a lot of tap-benefits.

In consideration to the Crew mechanic when [[Deeproot Pilgrimage]] is on the field, I have a question: If I tap multiple merfolk to crew a vehicle, do they count as one instance where I would only get one token? Or do I get one for each merfolk tapped? I'm confused on the timing rules where Deeproot Pilgrimage says "When one or more".
