How Do I Get Into Safe Mode?!

🎮 ROG Xbox Ally Discussion

Hello everyone,
I am the happy owner of a RoG Xbox Ally X. For standard gaming through Steam and the like it works great (minus some interesting troubles with Ubisoft Connect, but I blame Ubisoft Connect for that...). However, what I am having trouble with is getting the system to work with Android emulators such as GameLoop, BlueStacks, and MumuPlayer. From what another Reddit thread told me, the issue is with the AMD drivers, and was told to roll back the driver to an earlier version (I believe January of 2026) and then make sure Armory Crate does not force update it later on. This is where my question lies. How do I successfully get the gamepad to actually get me into Safe Mode?

I first ran into issues upon telling the gamepad to restart into Safe Mode, I am prompted to provide some sort of recovery key, of which I cannot locate as the device is not listed in my Microsoft Account as it came with Windows 11 Home that doesn't have BitLocker. To remedy that hurdle, I de-encrypted the device through Windows Settings.

Once I got past the Windows recovery screen, I ran into an issue where I could not input a numerical command input, to select which start up mode I wanted Windows to boot up in; with option 4 being Windows in Safe Mode, and option 5 being Windows in Safe Mode with Networking. I found out sorely that Bluetooth keyboards don't work in Safe Mode, so I hauled out an old USB keyboard and it worked, however once I was able to tell the gamepad I wanted it to boot up in either Windows Safe Mode, I kept getting told to login and found out that the finger print reader does not work in Windows Safe Mode either.

Going back to the regular Windows OS, I removed my fingerprint as an option to login, and restarted the device for an unknown time at this point, with a wired keyboard plugged into the GamePad, I initiated another round of telling the gamepad to restart in Windows Safe Mode with Networking. Now the system is telling me from the Windows login screen that "Something happened and your PIN isn't available. Click to set up your PIN again." The only option available to me is to "Set up my PIN," which fails every time. A Windows pop-up window appears telling me I need internet to do this, and even though I am Windows Safe Mode with Networking, I cannot seem to turn on the Wifi. Clicking the Network icon at the bottom of the Windows login screen only shows me the Airplane mode icon that is completely grayed out.
