Besides looks why would anyone get a road bike
Since gravel bikes are as light and aerodynamic as road bikes these days. Whats the point of getting a road bike with limited tire clearance when you can get a gravel bike that can fit both road tires and gravel tires.
You can get gravel bikes with race geometry too if you want to get more of a lower position, but it seems like the industry trend is leaning toward higher stack heights in order to hold an aero position for longer.
I ask this question because I am debating on which one to get since I live in a flat city where there’s no hills, but I feel like a road bike would be a waste because a gravel bike is much more versatile.
I also noticed that track bikes have wider space between the tire and the forks so I’m guessing a gravel bike with smaller tires would be more aerodynamic after all.
That being said most of the aerodynamic benefits comes from your clothes and rider position. I’m also not competing in the Tour de France anytime soon.
