Local Recommendations

I am in SLC for the next month, and potentially longer for school. I am looking for recommendations for things I should do in the next month to get a feel for the area to determine if it would be a good fit for a longer term stay. Included in that, would love recommendations for coffee shops that are good for studying and restaurant recommendations.
