Great Grandma not on Censuses? Wrong last name?

Research Assistance

Hello. I am trying to find out more information about my 2x great grandmother, Pearl Ervilla, I believe the last name is SAWYER. Shes also listed with the surnames OWRE and LLOYD, mainly, but Owre was the surname of my 2x great grandfather, Lloyd a later husband. Im not even sure if Sawyer was her maiden last name, (it was from an Ancestry hint) as her ethnicity is listed as French in the Canadian Census from 1916, after she had married my 2nd great grandfather. She was born in 1897 in the USA, passed in 1985 in Edmonton, Canada. The only Pearl Ervilla Sawyer I can find in a US census is born in 1893, in north Carolina, but her race is listed as Black and I had no Black in my DNA results. I can't find any other census's with her listed prior to marriage, which leads me to believe Sawyer might not have even been her last name. I have French DNA and groups linked to Quebec settlers, but have not been able to find anything about this family line as my father never knew that side of his family, and I don't have any DNA matches that could help unfortunately. Any help is greatly appreciated ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜„

Here's a link to the record i have found from ancestry.
