Are the mega spawns usually this far between on raiding days?.

I wanted to focus on mega metagross and mega garchomp today during their region hours. But they literally did not spawn within 7 miles of me all day so I had no chance to do them in person. And the pokegenie queue for them has been over 4k trainers all day.

I was able to do metagross late last night but I am currently on hour 7 of waiting on my second garchomp. At this rate I think it will be out of rotation on all time zones before I get into a second remote raid.

Is this normal?
