Do you paint a picture or do you tell a story?
Hello! I’m writing my first novel. I took the advice of this subreddit, and I just sat down and started writing. Thank you for the advice.
I’m at about 39,000 words and feel like I’m about 2/3 done saying what I have to say. The plan is to go back and re-read and make adjustments, and probably expand some areas where I may prefer more depth in a scene or character.
I’m reading a book now (novel, fiction) that really tries hard to paint a picture on every page. Every person, scene, motion has a lot of adjectives so that you see the scene exactly the way the writer wants you to.
I feel like my writing is more similar to me telling a story. Sometimes there’s a picture painted, sometimes there isn’t.
How do you prefer to write? Is it different from what you prefer to read?
