Paint it black isolated guitar track

Music Talk

Hard to say something about this all time great song that hasn’t been said before, but here goes!

I was listening to the isolated guitar tracks and first, I came away with a new appreciation for how colorful Brian’s guitar playing was in those days. I believe I hear his (or was this Keith’s?) acoustic guitar which adds a lot of color to the track.

But the most interesting part to me is the chorus. When you hear people cover this song they typically strum (with a capo on 2) the Dm-C-F progression. But on this track we can hear Keith playing very sparsely- really just stabbing at two chords I think, without any strumming.

I’m still not sure what those two chords are and I’m yet to hear anyone cover the song correctly- not even Keith plays it that way anymore! But it’s just another great example of how less is more in the chorus, especially with Bill’s amazing bass playing.
