Can I play on my current Survival world with the latest Snapshot?

I haven't done this for years but I remember doing it when I was younger, and my worlds turned out alright most of the time. I really want to mess around with the new cushions and get the new autumn forests. Will my world be safe if I play in the latest snapshot? Should I just wait until the official release? Have any of you had good luck when playing in snapshots with your Survival worlds?

I know the obvious "back up your world just in case", I guess I'm just curious if there's any real risk anymore of major corruptions, especially when the newer updates are somewhat small compared to the kinds we got back in the day.
