Why does Reddit hate knives for self defense?

Question

I feel like the conversation is dominated by americans and already fit people. A lot of places you can’t carry guns, a lot of people can’t run very well for many various reasons (mine being a repaired Achilles tendon) and in a lot of countries criminals are much more aggressive than in the us and unless they only want money or goods you will 100% die or be near dead if you comply. Then others mention the legality of carrying knives which baffles me because like you’re not worried about the legal repercussions of shooting someone but worried about the knife which can easily be argued in defence as intended carry was as a tool? And I feel like only those who have never seen a knife meant for self defense used in a defensive scenario think this, knives like a SOCP or a kabar are hard to pull out of one’s hands and if you do lose it you kinda deserve to die, and soldiers kill terrorist with those knives and get killed by Terrorists with knives all the time, big guys get killed by smaller guys in street fights with knives all the time if you watched gore videos, big guys sometimes even lose to toothbrush shanks in prison if you dig deep on gore sites. I feel like this conversation is also dominated by those with only anecdotal experience, like most people don’t mass watch street fight knife gore videos on sites like best gore and liveleak, from the hundreds of videos I’ve watched it seems like a toss of the coin once people hit the ground unless there is a decent disparity of strength and skill between the combatants. Also if knives aren’t good for self defence how are there so many headlines of someone pulling out a knife during the fight and killing the unarmed guy? This seems like a weird Reddit fantasy that the owner of the knife gets his knife took and stabbed, when I saw previous posts comments regurgitating this regularly I did some research and the owner of the knife getting their knife took and used against them is nowhere near as common as someone pulling out a knife during the fight and killing the person without any weapon. I did full gore autism on this and i really don’t see how Reddit sees knives as completely useless, like yes they’re less useful than a gun and if you’re a runner and a track star then god speed use those chevrolegs and gtfo there but that’s not an option for all people, it also assumes that complying will mean you will be allowed to survive which isn’t necessarily true in all places or for all people, and then the fear mongering over knife laws yet the quickness to jump to the glock whenever the discussion of self defence comes up seems kinda stupidly incongruous. Then mentions of pepper spray make me laugh like hell because if the wind isn’t 100% on your side you will just blind yourself and your peeps lol. If anyone has any reasons to not carry a knife for self defence in those situations that’s backed by anything besides anecdotal evidence I would love to hear it but every past posts have just been Reddit tough guy bouncers going “let me tell you buddy-“
