depression is starting to set in
I had ATFL repair surgery a little over a month ago and I’m starting to notice depression start to sink back in. It’s been a struggle to motivate myself to get out of bed because of my limited mobility (i’m PWB as tolerated and use either a knee scooter or crutches/walker). I miss being able to just get up and a take a shower normally without using a shower chair. Most of all, I miss being able to drive and my independence.
I’m also very nervous because I go back to my college in about a month, and I hope I can walk normally and everything by then. I live on campus and walking is my primary method of commuting. I have accommodations set up through the university thankfully, but i’m just nervous about navigating a large campus like mine during my healing process.
I’m literally stuck in the house all day and it’s summertime. Not to mention, I just turned 21 this summer (I had surgery 2 days after my b-day). I know there will be other summers after this, but I’m sad I had to spend my summer this way instead of going out with friends and enjoying myself.
I know things are eventually going to get better and the difference between now and a month ago is already crazy. I’m praying at my next follow up
appointment in about a week, i’ll be cleared to drive.
Is there anyone on this subreddit who has gone through something similar? I’d love any advice on how to get myself out of this headspace!!
