Our Wonderful Miracle Surrogacy Experience
We love Miracle!
My partner and I decided to build our family in mid 2024. We wanted to have children with both of our DNA who were related by the egg donor. We are from Cleveland, Ohio. We initially spoke with Mario Lara, who helped us to thoroughly and quickly answer any and all questions we had regarding the contract, costs, and the process. Since Mexico does not allow transfer of two embryos with different paternal DNA into one surrogate, we signed on for two separate journeys with the same egg donor. We decided to do our journeys in Cancun because we are familiar with the area and because there are nonstop flights to and from Cancun on Saturdays. Along with this, we knew it would be comfortable and exciting as we would be able to stay in reasonably priced resorts in the area when we did our semen deposits, when we met the surrogate in the second trimester, and prior to birth. My partner speaks informal Spanish while I speak minimal Spanish.
Upon signing the contract, we were assigned to Diego Napoles, our journey coordinator. He was very sweet, responsive and thorough. We flew to Cancun for our sperm deposits in September of 2024 at Advanced Fertility in Cancun. My sperm levels were low, but we still did an egg harvest and embryo creation with our egg donor resulting in just one embryo. We wanted two to three embryos. So we asked if the egg donor would be open to donating another time for me, which would mean three times total- she said no. So we decided to redeposit my sperm again in Cancun in January 2025 and switch to an entirely new egg donor. From this second round we got 3 good embryos after PGT testing (PGT tests for abnormal cells, abnormal DNA, and the sex of an embryo). My partner then went ahead and had his embryos created with the same egg donor. He got 5 good embryos!
After PGT testing, we requested our surrogate in March 2025 and we made an initial embryo transfer with embryo glue in June 2025. You don’t meet the surrogate during these initial steps, they usually wait until the surrogate is pregnant and in the second trimester. Not meeting her ended up good because our first transfer did not result in pregnancy and so we were assigned a new surrogate. Our second transfer to our new surrogate was in October and she got pregnant!
Between this point and January, we were assigned to a new Journey coordinator named Fernando Espana. We were hesitant and sad to say goodbye to Diego (he got a promotion!), but Fernando proved to be just as easygoing, responsive, and thorough as Diego.
In January 2026, in our eleventh week of pregnancy, we met our beautiful, sweet, and kind surrogate and her two children at a lunch date in Cancun. She came with her surrogacy coordinator who spoke both English and Spanish (our surrogate did not speak English) and we had an informal and special exchange. We then went to a checkup and ultrasound where we first saw our baby boy! It was a beautiful experience. We were informed that the delivery would likely be a scheduled c-section at this point in the journey.
We then went home and got regular updates while we prepared for our precious baby! During this time we met with Miracle legal liaison Jesus Herrera and our lawyers from Altamarino Law Firm for the legal process to remove the surrogate from and add my partner to the birth certificate. This would mean we would have to stay in Cancun for 4-6 weeks after birth to generate the new birth certificate and go get our baby’s US passport. This process is apparently changing in the coming months/year, and will result in faster generation of a corrected birth certificate.
Along the way, we did a couple video checkups and meetings with our surrogate, and the c-section was scheduled for June 12. We purchased changeable and refundable plane tickets for that date as well as an Airbnb right across the street from the hospital where she would deliver (Amerimed Hospital Cancun). The pregnancy had no issues, so she ended up delivering on this date.
Leading up to delivery, the surrogate requested some extra money to care for her children, and we also paid to have an Airbnb closer to the hospital for a week.
The day before the c-section, we met for lunch with our surrogate, Miracle concierge Alex Rodriguez, and Miracle surrogacy coordinator Paola Villagra. Alex and Paola provided a very warm, exciting, and informative atmosphere for all involved. The following day was delivery! Only one of us (my partner) could go to the c-section, while I waited in the waiting room to meet our baby. The baby was born 6/12 with no issues (surrogate and baby A+!), my partner did skin to skin in the operating room, and I met the baby briefly before they took him to the nursery for the night. We had visiting hours the day after for two hours, and then 2 days after we were able to take him home. Total cost for hospital stay was about ~$5000 including circumcision and c-section.
We originally filed to get the corrected birth certificate (they call it the civil registry in Mexico) in Cancun, but the request was denied. We then decided to refile in Merida where it was approved. We have the appointment to get the civil registry on 7/13 and the passport on 7/14 in Merida. We plan to leave on 7/18, so about 5 weeks after birth. Along the way, our baby boy has had a checkup with a wonderful pediatrician set up by Miracle.
I would plan for about 1.5 years and $100,000 (give or take) all in for a straightforward surrogacy journey with one or two embryo transfers, hotel stays, flights, and all the extra charges that come up along the way.
Regarding insurance- our employee health plan provides emergency international coverage for a newborn. So if the baby were to go to the NICU, we would be covered. Circumcision and scheduled medical care was not covered. Emergency surrogate care is covered out of pocket or by alternative insurance.
Overall, Miracle made a beautiful experience for us. They are supportive of both the intended parents and the surrogates, and they treat both sides with love and humanity. We look forward to another journey for my partner inthis coming year!
