Do you need to be egotistical or arrogant to be at the top of a sport or game?

It seems common for a lot of top athletes and some people that come to mind are Michael Jordan, Zlatan, Ronaldo, Magnus Carlsen, etc. Maybe I’m mistaking arrogance for confidence but it does seem like being very egotistical could be a trait needed for someone at the top of a sport or game.
