Looking for advice on how to manage a yeast issue with my dog. (GSD)

I have a somewhat older gsd who for a while now has had a yeast skin issue that wont go away. Iv brought him to two different vets and they both told me yeast is the issue.

Both told me to get allergy medicine like apoqule but. I simply can't afford it. If I could I most certainly would be getting it.

Every few months we get some steroid pills which only help while he takes them but like the day after he's out the itching and the god awful smell comes back.

Im down to giving him a bath every few days but I swear the smell is noticeable the very next day.
