it's me again... 3rd miscarriage pending, what is the next step (I live in the Netherlands)
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately I have to prepare myself for my third miscarriage. Here is my timeline:
- December 2025 first miscarriage at 6 weeks. It was spontaneous.
- March 2026 second miscarriage at 8 weeks (but embryo stopped developing at 5w6d). I had to take misoprostol for that one, one of my worst experiences ever.
- Currently pregnant, today on 27/7 I believe to be at 23 DPO. I took a semi-quantitative urine test on Wednesday 22/7 and HCG was between 300 and 1000. Today I took the same test and it was still between 300 and 1000. I'm waiting to hear from my GP if I can do a HCG blood test to confirm the stalling, but because I live in the Netherlands it's not a given I can have it done... In addition to that, since yesterday I have strong period cramps.
Anyways. Since the beginning I knew this current pregnancy was doomed, I can't explain why but I never believed in it.
I have had the standard RPL panel done that is available in the Netherlands, all came back normal:
- APS / blood clotting disorder negative
- thyroid is normal
- ultrasound showed nothing
- Because I have long irregular cycles (between 38 and 47 days) we also did check my hormones via bloodtest at day 5 of my cycle, here also nothing. So it seems like I don't have PMOS / PCOS either.
- On top of that there is a suspicion of celiac disease. I have been eating gluten free since April.
In the Netherlands they don't want to do more. They are very proponent of the "wait and see", which is fine when everything goes well. But when it goes wrong it feels like hell. I already had to fight to get all those standard tests despite it being my right to have access to them. The OB/GYNS at my hospital were always so dismissive. First of all I never spoke to the same person and had to explain my case over and over. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that two miscarriages were just "bad luck", it happens to so many people, "it will work out eventually", "but you can get pregnant easily, you are lucky" etc. etc.
I want to have more investigation done because I believe that there is something underlying. You don't have 3 miscarriages with no LC by chance. Unfortunately in the Netherlands I don't think I will be helped much more. The hospital already doesn't want to do karyotyping, they don't prescribe any medical treatment either. I hear some of you getting the kitchen sink protocol for instance, I couldn't dream of that there.
Is there anyone that lives in the Netherlands that has had this experience, and if so what was your next step? At this point I'm considering finding a fertility clinic in Germany, Belgium or France (I'm French btw but live in NL), but it takes so much energy and time and it will probably be very costly.
Any tips appreciated. Thanks a lot for your support.
