[IWantOut] 26M India -> Germany
Hi everyone,
I'm a 26-year-old backend software engineer from India with around 3 years of experience, mainly working with Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and backend systems.
I'm also a trans man, and one of my biggest life goals is to move to a country where I can live openly and eventually begin my medical transition. For personal reasons, I don't feel comfortable starting my transition while I'm still in India. My current plan is to first secure a visa-sponsored software engineering job, relocate, settle in for around 6 months, and then begin my transition.
At the moment, I'm considering Europe (especially Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, etc.), Canada, and Australia.
I'd really appreciate any guidance from people who have gone through a similar journey or have experience with international hiring.
Some questions I have:
• How realistic is it to get visa sponsorship with around 3 years of backend experience?
• Which countries would you recommend for both career opportunities and LGBTQ+ acceptance?
• Which companies or job portals should I focus on?
• Is there anything you wish you had known before moving?
Any advice, personal experiences, or resources would mean a lot to me.
Thank you!
