Zepbound KwikPen: Never Pressed the Injection Button—Is My Pen Still Safe to Use?

Tips/Tricks

Hi everyone,
I’m hoping someone familiar with the Zepbound 2.5 mg KwikPen can help.

Last week, I attempted what I thought would be my first injection. I attached a new needle, inserted it into my skin, and dialed the pen to the dose. However, I later realized that I never pressed the injection button. Instead, I manually turned the dose selector back to 0 while the needle was still in my skin, counted to 10, removed the needle, and discarded it. To the best of my knowledge, no medication was injected.

A few days later, I traveled from America to the Middle East. The KwikPen stayed in my carry-on inside a protective case for the entire trip. It was not refrigerated during travel. After arriving, I briefly put it back in the refrigerator before later taking it back out to store it at room temperature. The medication is still completely clear with no particles or discoloration.

My questions are:
Since I never pressed the injection button, would the pen still be considered unused, or is it now considered “in use”?
Could manually turning the dose selector back to 0 have damaged the dosing mechanism in any way?
Is the pen still considered safe and effective to use based on this storage history?
Has anyone experienced something similar or received guidance directly from Eli Lilly?
I’m also planning to contact Lilly directly, but I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has firsthand experience or has spoken with their medical information team.

Thank you!
