Need Clarification on applying for Residency Petition for in-state tuition

Asking for a friend about ASU independent residency change petitions.

1. How important is following the 30-day maximum out-of-state requirement? Does it change if they've worked full-time in AZ for the year? They went over the 30-day maximum, but only went back to their previous state for 5 days (they have a letter stating their AZ job wanted them to do something for one of their branches there) and have letters for some of the other travel that was out of the country. But some of their travel was for leisure.
2. If they have all of the documents ASU looks for (AZ vehicle, AZ drivers license, AZ voting, AZ tax, rent agreements, etc) for the year, what exactly is ASU scanning for in bank statements? Are they just checking to see if money was given from family?

Need help understanding the chance of getting it approved.
