Tasks lack variety

Only just got round to watching S20. I’ve watched the show since the start - is it me or is there just a bit of a lack of variety in tasks these days? You basically have

- scavenger hunt
- create and market a product/brand (sometimes a pitch, sometimes street selling)
- corporate away day
- TV selling

Remember when they used to represent an artist and open a gallery? Go to trade shows with inventors’ items? One series they had to upcycle furniture? Designing wraps for weird eco-vehicles? I’m sure there used to be a bit more variety.

The TV ad episode used to be a big deal but now it seems all of the marketing tasks involve creating media as that’s the way of the world.

I think maybe as technology has lowered barriers to being an entrepreneur it’s just made the show less interesting and lower stakes.

The “create a product you know nothing about and look like idiots” task never used to be the bulk of the show like it is now I don’t think.

Between this, losing the winning team’s treats and demoting You’re Fired to a podcast it really felt quite cheap and like going through the motions this year.

And sure, “if you don’t enjoy it, just don’t watch it.” I just wanted to see if others felt similarly this year more than ever…
