Makkale let's talk about a very obvious elephant in the room regarding Nammavar.

Don't get me wrong Kamal Haasan oda acting and filmmakingku naan oru periya fan. Aana avaroda filmographya thirumbi paathaa anga oru massive irony irukku.

Real lifela he is very vocal about being a rationalist anti Brahminical and staunchly anti caste. Surnames uh drop pannanum caste paaka koodathu nu eppovum mic pudichu pesuvaru. But onscreenla avar play panna charactersa eduthu paarunga. It's almost like he has a monopoly on centering and glorifying dominant upper caste identities.

Redditlaye neraya discussions poirukku about this hypocrisy especially after Mari Selvaraj brought up the trauma caused by Thevar Magan during the Maamannan audio launch

Kamal kannis always defend Thevar Magan saying climaxla pullaingala padikka vainga da nu nalla message thaan sonnaru he never intended to glorify violence nu.

But the reality on the ground was different. That movie essentially birthed the whole Madurai Formula in Tamil cinema where caste pride and feudal violence became a highly profitable commercial template.

" Potri paadadi ponne" songa just oru paata paakama south TN villagesla oppressed castes munnadi athai play panni weaponize panni romba traumatize pannanga nu neraya per redditlaye share pannirukanga. In fact Kamal himself apparently regretted using those exact lyrics later on but the socio political damage was already done. Even now it is still happening,

Apro Virumaandi. orginal sandiyar nu vachu Dalit political leaders heavya protest panni thaan titleaye maathinanga. It was an absolute masterclass in filmmaking aana once again it deeply delved into dominant caste pride and south TN power dynamics.

Nayagan padathula Velu Nayakkan the classic don who becomes the savior of the masses. And ippo Mani Ratnam oda Thug Life la thirumba Rangaraya Sakthivel Naicker nu andha specific caste taga thirumba revive pandraru. Sathi Leelavathila Dr Sakthivel Gounder. Hey Ram padathula Saket Ram which is a deep dive into Tamil Brahmin identity orthodoxy and conservatism. Dasavathaaram idhula solleve venam youve got Rangaraja Nambi orthodox Vaishnavite Brahmin and Balaram Naidu.

Yes Dasavathaaram padathula Vincent Poovaragan nu oru Dalit environmentalist character play pannirukkaru. But avaroda half a century careerla athu oru chinna exception thaan. Matha padi he consistently plays the powerful dominant caste savior.

Idhu romba weird aana oru paradox. Oru pakkam Periyarist ideology and equality pesradhu aana script nu varumbothu Gounder Thevar or Nayakkan tags use panni mass elevation kaatradhu.

Does depicting an oppressor caste inherently glorify them or is he subconsciously catering to the market that secretly loves Aandai parambarai pride? Commercial cinemaoda demands eppadi irundhalum his real life politics and reel life choices are totally contradicting each other. Thoughts makkale?

Reel vs Real politics. Namma Aandavar meedhu oru chinna torch light adithaal 🔦 , A Kamal Paradox !!!
