New wheelchair and I’m having some adjustment issues - advice appreciated cheers

Recently got a new wheelchair and it’s great apart from a few issues

1 the bike tyres bruse my arms quite badly
2 how do I grip the metal wheel handles safely when I’m going too fast? [e.g down a slope]
