Has anyone here done their SIR yet? What was it actually like?
SIR is going on all over maharashtra now and I still feel like nobody has explained it to anyone.
We haven't done ours yet. First thing I found out: no one comes to your doorstep. You have to go to your polling booth yourself with all your documents. Nobody told us that, we just heard it around.
The people sitting at these counters look elderly and completely overworked, and from what I've seen they don't explain anything. Just fill this, sign here, next. In my area the camp is running out of a party office. My friend's is at a school. Is there even a rule about this?
And the only thing that's actually reached people is the threat "if you don't do it your name gets removed automatically." That's the whole awareness campaign. Everyone's showing up scared, not informed.
I get why SIR exists. Duplicates, dead entries, people who moved away. Fine. But this is the voter list. It decides whether you get to vote. And people are treating it like a gas connection KYC.
Actual dates for Maharashtra, since nobody's telling anyone:
Verification window: till 8 August 2026 (extended from 29 July because of the rains)
So did your family finish it? Did it go smoothly or did they send you back for documents? And did anyone actually explain anything to you?
