I randomly stumbled across a rising female MC from Jamaica, Queens, named **Pettyy the Ave Baby** on social media, and her penmanship completely caught my attention.

Unlike mainstream female rappers, Pettyy has a genuine star quality about her and can *actually* rap with real substance. Hearing her lay down structured hardcore bars with that signature raspy voice gives off a heavy, authentic New York energy that the mainstream is severely missing right now.

The YouTube comments on her latest clip are filled with people saying her delivery, breath control, and heavy vocal presence are deeply reminiscent of icons like **Queen Latifah, MC Lyte,** and **Eve**. Does she have that undeniable star quality to make it to the top?

Check out her freestyle here up above:

Do you agree with the comparisons to '90s legends, or do you think her style is too underground to break into the current mainstream market?

Drop your thoughts!

What do y'all think of Pettyy the Ave Baby? Her freestyle over Mobb Deep's "Burn" has people comparing her to Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and Eve. Does she have what it takes to bring raw lyricism back?
