Trees... before trees...?

The title is a bit confused, and so am I. I didn't manage to get my own trees set up before the trees stage was reached and now they are growing everywhere. I am quite surprised by this and don't know how to feel about it. I am afraid I broke something (I am playing at 0,7 terraforming rate), but I only sent 2 plant rockets and have 1 biodome of each tier, 3 tier 2 flower spreaders and 3 grass spreaders, basically at my front lawn. I play actively and don't just leave the game for 5 hours for numbers to go up. Did something go wrong, or is it intended?

Secondary question, if there are in-world trees that grew from the planetary stages progress, if I had a building there, before the tree grew, will it still appear and screw up with my base? I see a huge tree in a spot where we have a base with my friend on a MP game, and now I am worried it may lock us out from some structures or resource storages once it appears
